Structural Steel Overview
S275 and S355 are two types of steel grades that can be used for a variety of structural and engineering purposes. They differ in strength and may be used for separate purposes because of their unique qualities and chemical composition.
They can be ordered in a variety of different forms like bars, plates, or blocks that makes them pliable for the task at hand.
S275 Structural Steel
This is a structural grade steel that can yield a minimum of 275 N/mm². This grade of steel, along with S275JR, is useful for many general engineering and structural jobs and comes in a variety of forms, such as a plate, flat bar, and even a round bar. Though this grade isn't as strong of a steel as S355, it functions as a great welding metal and has good machinability.
S355 Structural Steel
This grade of steel is stronger than its S275 counterpart with a minimum yield strength of 355 N/mm² resulting in its S355 name. This grade is also available in plate, round bar, flat bar, and is even available in blocks. S355 is low in carbon option, however, has more SI in its composition. This creates a highly durable steel that is used in harsh environments that are susceptible to frequent weather changes like on offshore structural sites.
Flame Cutting Services
Both S275 and S355 grades can be flame cut into a profile upon request. Contact our sales team for custom profiling services.

Structural Steel S275 (Universal Beams, Plate, Channels)
S275 is a structural grade steel with a minimum yield strength of 275 N/mm². This grade of steel, along with S275JR, is useful for many general engineering and structural jobs and comes in a variety of forms, such as a plate, flat bar, and even a round bar. Though this grade isn’t as strong of a steel as S355, it functions as a great welding metal and has good machinability. If request our company is able to flame cut a profile into a sheet of S275. S275 suitable for numerous general engineering and structural applications. S275 & S275JR steel can be supplied in many forms including plate, round bar and flat bar. S275 gives a lower strength (than S355) but has good machinability and can also be welded. The average minimum yield for S275 steel is 275 N/mm². That is why it is called S275. BS EN 10025 S275 & S275JR supercedes BS4360 43A and 43B.

Universal Beams – Structural Steel
Our company supply structural beams and columns to constructions and industrial builders all over the nation. From our broad range of sizes already stocked, whatever our clients are looking for we able to have delivered to their site where it may be. **What are Universal Beams and Columns** Universal Beams are long structures with an I cross section. It is a common beam type. A universal beam is very efficient at carrying bending loads that are also shear. They are used mostly in construction and are preferred in civil engineering projects. **UB and UC Dimensions and Grades** There are a variety of Universal beams and columns that can be cut and shipped directly to you. Universal beams range from 127 x 76 x 13 kg/m up to 914 x 419 x 388 kg/m. These beams can also be supplied in a couple of different grades including S275 and S355. All our beams can cut to the size you require, primed and shipped directly to you in our vehicles wherever you may be in the country. Our universal columns come in sizes ranging from 152 x 152 x 23 kg/m to 356 x 406 x 634 kg/m. Many of our columns come varying in weight per serial size to match the job it is needed for. These columns also come in different steel grades like S275 and S355. Universal Columns can also be delivered to any location in the nation by our fleet of trucks in order to make your construction job a lot simpler. Universal Beams are a common structural steel shape in construction which is why we make sure to carry a variety of sizes so that they can be delivered in a timely manner and many of our sizes can be cut to order in case a more customized size is needed for your construction project. So, if you have a construction job anywhere in the country that is in need of Universal beams, just reach out to our company to see how we can provide you with the steel you need for the job. Universal Columns – Structural Steel
Universal columns and beams are a commonly used structural steel shape for many different construction and civil engineering projects. It is important to know which steel structure you need for the job because through universal columns and beams look the same, they are designed for different purposes and function differently under certain types of loads. **Difference between Universal Columns and Beams** A Universal column is structured to hold loads along its vertical axis and resist twisting, while universal beams are structured to hold loads along the length of the beam and are structured to resist bending from the weight of the load. Yet, both are meant to hold a lot of weight coming in from one direction. Universal columns normally have more square dimensions with a similar length and width to make the structure sturdier and less likely to twist. Neither universal columns nor beams are equipped to deal with bidirectional loads. In which case, some other structural steel shape would be better suited for the type of job you have like a HSS for example. **Universal Columns Grades and Sizes** We provide universal columns in a variety of sizes, ranging from 152 x 152 x 23 kg/m to 356 x 406 x 634 kg/m. Most of the columns we have available come in a few different weights per serial sizes. Our columns can also be supplied in a couple different steel grades including S355 and S275. All our sizes can be cut to the appropriate size for your project, primed, and shipped to you in our fleet of steel delivering vehicles. So, if you are in need of universal columns for your construction project give us a call and we can deliver any sized columns you need from our stock to your project site anywhere across the country.

Structural Steel S355 (Universal Columns, High Yield Plate)
S355 is a structural grade steel with a minimum yield strength of 355 N/mm². This grade is also available in plate, round bar, flat bar, and is even available in blocks. S355 is low in carbon option, however, has more SI in its composition. This creates a highly durable steel that is used in harsh environments that are susceptible to frequent weather changes like on offshore structural sites. And like S275, this grade can also be flame cut into a profile upon request. S355, S355JR, S355J2, S355J2+N steel in plate, round bar, flat bar and blocks. S355 steel is a low carbon steel whose specifications offer high yield strength. The average minimum yield for S355 steel is 355 N/mm² giving its name: S355. BS EN 10025 S355, S355JR, S355J2 and S355J2+N supercedes BS4360 50A, 50B, 50C 50D. S355 sheet/plate can also be flame cut to a profile on request.

Mild Steel Box Section S275 (RHS & SHS)
Steel Express offers two types of box sections that are available in a variety of sizes, thickness, and materials and can also be finished hot or cold. These are just a few of the hollow structural sections that we have to offer. What is Rectangular Hollow Section (RHS)? RHS is a type of HSS that with a tubular section hollowed through the metal. It is referred to as rectangular because of its outer shape. The RHS is the most common steel and is usually used in welding steel frames. At Steel express we offer these sections in sizes varying from 50 x 25 mm to 450 x 250mm with a max thickness of 16mm. What is Square Hollow Section (SHS)? There are also square hollow sections available or SHS. They are usually used in constructing columns and similar structures. SHS gets its name from the square shape of its hollowed structure. This section is normally available in mild steel S275 and varies in size from 20 x 20mm to 300 x 300 and a thickness ranging from 2 mm to 16mm. Box Sections The two sections together are referred to as box sections. These hollow sections come in mild steel grade S275. And best of all, Steel Express can deliver these mild steel box sections nationwide. So, give us a call if you're in need of one of our steel box sections and we can deliver them to you.

It comes standard in mild steel S275 grade. CHS has the most versatile uses, but are usually used in welded steel frames and in the construction of columns. Circular cross sections are excellent at torsion resistance which makes them a good fit for many construction jobs. Diameters and Thickness The thickness of each hollow section is uniform throughout and Steel Express has a variety of shapes and diameters readily available for nationwide delivery. The outside diameter of the structure can vary from 21.3 mm in size to 168.3 mm. And the thickness can range from 2 mm to 40 mm. And circular hollow sections shouldn't be confused for metal pipes since the dimensions of the two are measured very differently and one is used for water flow while the other for structural support and framing. With the variety of material and range of sizes and thickness, Steel Express has the material you need for your construction job. So, just give us a call to partake in our nationwide delivery of top-notch material.
