Acrylic – PPMA
Acrylic has many different names including Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). It is also known as acrylic or acrylic glass as well as by many different trade names such as Plexiglas, Acrylite, Lucite, and Perspex to name just a few. Acrylic engineering plastic is transparent, lightweight and shatterproof.
This type of engineered plastic is often used as an alternative or replacement to glass, as well as casting resin, a comment in inks and coatings, to name just a few.
Acrylic can refer to a group of man-made plastic materials containing one or more derivatives of acrylic acid. The most often used and manufactured is polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), it is a tough, highly transparent material with excellent resistance to ultraviolet radiation and weathering.
It can be coloured, moulded, cut, drilled, and formed to meet the needs of the end user. All of these properties make it perfect for many applications including airplane windshields, skylights, automobile tail lights, and outdoor signs.
