Stainless Steel – Grade 303
303 stainless steel is the most machinable among the austenitic grades of stainless steel.
303 stainless steel owes its good machinability to the addition of Sulphur in the alloy. It should be noted that the Sulphur also reduces the corrosion resistance of the steel and slightly reduces its toughness. However. the toughness is still excellent as with other austenitic grades. AISI 304 stainless steel offer higher corrosion resistance than 303. The sulphur present in 303 stainless steel results in poor weldability.
