Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate (PC) is a widely used engineering thermoplastics across the world, it has great properties that make it widely sort after, it is transparent, strong, has good dimensional stability and thermal stability and has unmatched impact resistance. It is used in many different products such as DVD’s, glasses and eyewear and head lamps, lenses to riot shields and security glass. Polycarbonate is transparent by its nature with an ability to transmit light almost as well as glass. It’s also have an amazing strong high impact strength means that polycarbonate sheet is virtually unbreakable in almost any situation.
Polycarbonate has good machining properties can be, moulded and thermoformed and whilst it is easy to polish it also scratches easily.
Polycarbonates can maintain rigidity up to 140°C and maintain toughness down to -20°C or special grades even lower.
The main characteristics of polycarbonates are:
- High impact strength
- Transparent
- Excellent fire rating
- Good machining qualities
- Easy to polish
- Good electrical properties
